Indiana Dunes consists of 2,182 acres of primitive, beautiful, historic and unique Hoosier landscape. Large sand dunes, located beyond the entire Lake Michigan shoreline, have taken thousands of years to form, and tower nearly 200 feet above the lake. A wide range of habitats and plant species are found in the park, with vegetation stabilizing some of the sand. These habitats provide homes for many types of plants and animals. An abundance of trails take in the dunes, lakeshore and forest, making for a unique hiking experience. There is also access to the 9 mile Calumet Trail that traverses through the nearby wet lands.
We will stay in the campground and take in as many hikes as desired. Swimming, birdwatching and fishing are also available. The trip will use the club van, departing from the north side of Indianapolis at 5:00 pm on Friday afternoon and return mid-afternoon on Sunday. The cost of the trip includes transportation, dinner on Friday/Saturday, breakfast on Saturday/Sunday, camping fees and supplies. Participants are responsible for meals on the road as well as lunch and snacks during the week-end.
