It ends in a remote area of Brown County forest near Monroe Reservoir, just south of S.R. 46 near Crooked Creek.  We will complete about 7 miles of the trail from Bear Lake to Richardson Road.  The hilly terrain (not too hilly) will give you a good feel for Southern Indiana hiking.

Meet at Dollar General Store in Beanblossom on SR 135 at noon for a gear review and pack fitting.  Then we will shuttle our vehicles and start our hike of about 4 miles from Bear Lake to the Fox Den Shelter.  Along the way we will filter water and practice reading the map for the trail.

At camp, we will set up tents, cook dinner as a group with various stove types, and have a campfire for the evening.  Those who prefer can sleep in the shelter (if it’s unoccupied). In the morning we will cook our breakfast, break camp and go another 3 miles to finish our hike.

Don’t have gear?  CIWC has tents and backpacks you can borrow and we share some club-provided group gear, such as stoves and water filters.  Suggested personal gear list will be provided by your trip leaders.

All trip participants will be expected to submit a medical form, sign a waiver and complete emergency information documents prior to participation.
