Morgan-Monroe Backpacking Skills Trip

Cost: $10 for Sat Dinner and Sunday Breakfast and use of club gear -  Bring lunch and snacks for the trail

Morgan – Monroe State Forest (south of Martinsville)

May 20th, 9:00 AM to May 21st 11:00 AM June 3rd, 9:00 AM to June 4th 11:00 AM  (rain date June 3-4) 

Wilderness Level 2 (EMS help may be over an hour away) – cell service spotty at best.

Cancellation Date: May 6th (fee must be received by this date) https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/images/cleardot.gifLearn and practice backpacking skills with experienced CIWC leaders. Saturday nights’ dinner and Sunday’s breakfast will be provided by CIWC. 

The cost for the trip is $10. You are responsible for your lunch / snacks for Saturday. Bring your drinking water.

We will begin by getting acquainted and then make sure everyone has their backpacks adjusted and loaded properly. The group gear will be dispersed among the participants which will consists or group food, cooking and kitchen gear as well as some materials we’ll use in skills training. Everything needed for overnight will be carried into the backcountry where we will set up camp. 

After camp set up there should be time for relaxation, or exploring the area before we begin supper. Our meals and clean up will be a group effort.

We will work as a group learning the basics of shelter, fire, water, and personal hygiene. 

Sunday after breakfast we can decide as a group if we want to hike or head back to the parking lot for departure.

Suggested personal gear list will be provided by your trip leaders.

Rendezvous Points will be announced via email.

Don’t have gear?  CIWC has tents and backpacks you can borrow and we share some club-provided group gear, such as stoves and water filters.  Suggested personal gear list will be provided by your trip leaders.  

All trip participants will be expected to submit a medical form, sign a waiver and complete emergency information documents prior to participation.
