Join us for an adventure to Cataloochee Valley near Waynesville, NC in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This area is noted for its history including several cabins, churches and homes built before the 1930’s when the park was created. It is also known for wildlife viewing since elk were re-introduced here in 2001(late October is near the end of the rut season). There is always a chance to see turkeys and possibly a bear as well.
We will be front country camping in the primitive campground. Prepare for cool nights and some steep climbs with moderate footing. Plans are to hike the Little Cataloochee Valley trail (10.2 miles and lots of history) and the Boogerman Trail (7.3 miles and several stream crossings) all depending on the weather and stream height. There are many alternate trails which are also beautiful if we need to change plans. If you are a fisherman (Tennessee or N. Carolina license needed) you may have some time in the evening to try for trout as well.
Trip cost includes transportation in club van, park entrance, camping fees, six trail meals, use of shared club gear, and miscellaneous supplies. Meals on the road are at your expense.
All trip participants must fill out and submit a CIWC Medical Form and Long Waiver Form.
